Your Mac, On Autopilot
Triggers Meet Actions
Simple concept. Powerful execution. When X happens, do Y. Configure once, automate forever.
USB Device Triggers
Detect when any USB device connects or disconnects. Your external drive, audio interface, webcam — they all become automation triggers.
WiFi Network Detection
Join your home network? Office WiFi? Trigger different automations based on where you are and which network you connect to.
Launch & Quit Apps
Automatically start the apps you need and close the ones you don't. For quitting, configure progressive enforcement — from asking nicely, to firm requests, all the way to force quit. You control how persistent LeanRunning gets.
Run Shortcuts
Execute any number of Apple Shortcuts when your triggers fire. The full power of Shortcuts, activated automatically.
Up and Running in Minutes
No scripting. No terminal commands. Just point, click, automate.
Add a Trigger
Select a USB device from the list of connected devices, or choose a WiFi network you've previously joined.
Define Actions
Pick which apps to launch or quit, and select any Shortcuts you want to run when the trigger fires.
Let It Run
LeanRunning lives in your menu bar, watching for your triggers. When they happen, your automations execute instantly.

Questions? Answers.
What triggers does LeanRunning support?
LeanRunning detects USB device connections/disconnections and WiFi network joins. When any of your configured triggers fire, your automations run automatically.
Can I run multiple Shortcuts from a single trigger?
Absolutely. Each trigger can launch multiple apps, quit multiple apps, and run as many Shortcuts as you need. Stack them up.
Does it work with any USB device?
Yes. LeanRunning detects any USB device your Mac recognizes — external drives, audio interfaces, webcams, hubs, keyboards, mice, and more.
Is this a subscription?
Nope. One-time purchase. You get free updates for the current major version (1.0 → 1.5, etc.). If we release a major version upgrade (v2.0), we may charge for it — but existing customers always get a discounted upgrade price.
What version of macOS do I need?
LeanRunning requires macOS 13 Ventura or later. We use modern APIs that aren't available on older versions.
